Message From The Principal
It will soon be the May half term break and whilst I wrote this in the last newsletter, I remain hopeful we may see some better weather!
Year 11 and Year 13 students have worked well to ensure that all the required assessment work is ready for teacher assessed grades to be submitted after the half term break. To enable the teaching team to have a full day review of this year’s teacher assessed grades for year 11 and year 13, the UTC site will be closed to year 10 and year 12 students on Monday 7th June 2021.
On this day year 10 and year 12 students will complete a day of online learning delivered remotely via MS Teams. Students should log into their timetabled class sessions. Students will need to register via the online register on teams, this will be added to your calendar on Teams and follows the same format as during lockdown. The register will be open from 8.20am and must be completed by 9am. We will contact the parents of any student unregistered, the same way as if the student is in school.

In the last newsletter I wrote about resilience and resolve and in the last week or so I have spoken to different groups of students about perseverance. There is no doubt that we have all been living through some very challenging times since March 2020. We were faced with barriers and problems that we could never have imagined. It is to our credit as a UTC community, students, staff and parents that we have been able to face the challenges and show that we’ve got what it takes. I explained to students that if you have got what it takes, it means you have displayed the correct skills and mindset required to meet certain challenges. It also communicates the characteristics of perseverance: the ability to keep going with continued effort and determination despite the obstacles that have confronted us.
I want to give a big shout out to the following students:
Year 11 Jack C and Year 12 Scott C who both got special mentions following a day’s environmental work with Chiltern Rangers, both students were commended for their excellent work ethic by John Shaw, MD at Chiltern Rangers.
Year 10 students Ianis M and Denis C, who demonstrated a real creative flair for spray painting as part of a public realm artwork of swifts that is being displayed at Wycombe Almshouses work. Students completed this work with professional artist Dan Wilson.
Year 13 Harrison P for outstanding work with our year 11 computing students. He has given his time and support to help them with their assignments and has been there to support them and give them someone to talk to if they are feeling down or need reassurance. This is not something Harrison was asked to do, it is something he chose to do and really shows his commitment to the UTC ethos.
My genuine thanks go once again to the students, staff and the supportive families for working in such a positive way at such a difficult time.
Finally, the next half term will be a busy one for year 10 and year 12 with employer led learning as restrictions continue to ease. We know that students and staff are looking forward to a well-earned half term break and we look forward to welcoming the students back to the UTC on Tuesday 8th June from 8.30am
