Yesterday we opened our doors to the first generation of Bucks UTC students!

The first generation of Bucks UTC students have had a great start to the new term and are already busy working on projects that will make them work ready! We used the first day of term as a great opportunity for students to get to know each other and have an introduction to Bucks UTC life.

We kicked off the day with a welcome presentation from our Principal, Bev Flanagan, who gave the students a chance to set their first objectives for what they want to achieve at Bucks UTC.

Then our Vice Principal, Sarah Newall lead the icebreaker sessions where students participated in team building activities and met the UTC staff team.

Once the students had got to know each other, we organised them into groups to work on activities concentrating on their specialisms, Construction and Computing.

Throughout the day, every student had a huge smile on their face and commented on how much they’ve enjoyed their first day at Bucks UTC. We’re thrilled that they’ve all settled into the building quickly and made new friends.

Principal Bev Flanagan had this to say about the first day: “It was great to see the UTC come alive with students, it’s what we have been waiting for and the day went very smoothly. I’m really looking forward to working with these young people and helping them achieve their goals.”

The Bucks Herald visited us for our first day to capture this exciting and historic day!

What will our students be up to for the rest of the week?

There are lots more activities planned for this week, including setting up two companies that will work like a ‘house’ system. They can also use this company to fundraise for a charity of their choice! This will give our students a grounding in entrepreneurship, marketing, branding and company codes of conduct/

We’ll be finishing this week with a ‘Dragons Den’ style activity where students will be pitching their ideas for the company names and brands. This will be a great opportunity for them to get expert feedback on their ideas and build their confidence in presenting.

These are very exciting time for Buckinghamshire UTC and we’ll keep you posted throughout the week with updates on what our students have been up to… So watch this space!
