Year 12 NCS Programme

Dear Parent/Guardian,
Bucks UTC and Action4Youth have planned an exciting opportunity for pupils to access the National Citizen Service (NCS) as a joint programme within college hours and across a digital platform. Action4Youth are a youth charity based in Buckinghamshire and we have planned and delivered the NCS programme across the Aylesbury Vale area for 9 years, and now provide the NCS programmes for the whole of Buckinghamshire.

In partnership with Bucks UTC, we will be delivering an Autumn NCS programme called ‘Moving Forward’ on Thursday 19th and Friday 20th November. The programme will run alongside the COVID risk assessment guidelines, and each activity will also be risk assessed to ensure the safety of all. Equipment for the sessions will be dropped to the college on Friday 13th November, to allow a quarantine period before students participate.

NCS is a great way for young people to build on skills and communication, as well as experiencing new and different activities. The programme incorporates team-building activities, several unique skills sessions, and a chance for students to be involved in volunteering for a local charity. Please see an outline of the week’s activities below:

Thursday 19th November
All sessions will run alongside normal school timings, within school premises. On Thursday, the students will take part in a Virtual Crystal Maze, where teams will compete against each other in a series of different tasks! The students will then take part in a First Aid course and a Money Skills session.

Friday 20th November
On Friday, we will be joined by ‘7Roadlight’, with Dwayne and Darren. They will speak of their personal experiences, as well as how to be safe as a young person within our society. We then have a session run by ‘Loudspeaker’, with ideas around failing better, resilience and gaining a ‘success mentality’.

Finally, we will be working with the Alzheimer’s Society to decorate cards and winter plant pots to gift to Avondale, a local care home. We hope these will help to cheer up the residents during lockdown.
