Study Computing with Bucks UTC

All students commence their time in Year 12 on the basis they will complete 2 years of study. The starting point for each individual will depend upon the grades they have attained at GCSE (or equivalent). The different programmes of study are outlined below and deliberately flexible so each individual can benefit from as bespoke a course of learning as possible. Students are afforded a greater deal of independence and flexibility in their studies as their curriculum will be personalised to meet their goals.

In addition to the BTEC qualifications, students also get the chance to study highly valued industry leading professional qualifications in Cisco and a number of programming languages. Students will be able to explore and focus on their preferred industry sector and use these new skills to help them with obtaining potential employment, further education and apprenticeships.

Sixth Form Options

In Sixth Form the focus is on study through increased project-based work and individual learning. Students have the opportunity to:

  • Participate in relevant work experience.
  • Take part in voluntary and community work projects.
  • Develop self-supervising skills.

Students are welcome to study Computing in our Sixth Form at either Level 3 or Level 2 entry*.

  • Level 3 entry offers students with an Extended Certificate in ICT, Digital Media Production and Computing. This is two years of comprehensive computing theory and practical work, complete with professional technical qualifications and industry experience. Alongside, students can also complete optional STEM-related A Levels. Completion of our Level 3 Programme typically progresses onto undergraduate studies or employment.
  • Level 2 entry provides a good introduction to the specialism with a Fundamentals Certificate in Computing. Alongside this, students also have the chance to complete any required GCSE retakes in Maths/English.

*Sixth Form entry routes are dependent on GCSE results.

+ - Extended Diploma in Computing

Extended Diploma in Computing (Level 3)

New for 2018-19 is a two year programme that enables students to complete a combination of three courses (worth one A Level each, that may include an academic A Level option). This is designed to enable students to learn a broad range of disciplines within the computing industry, whilst gaining professional qualifications and authentic working experience. This will support progression into higher education and/or employment.

  • BTEC Extended Certificate in Computing
  • BTEC Extended Certificate in Information Technology
  • BTEC Extended Certificate in Digital Media Production

Additional A levels

Bucks UTC can offer some A-Level courses. This will broaden the learning opportunities for students attending the UTC.
