Building Studies

In Building Studies you will learn about the diversity and complexity of the industry. Building Studies is much more than the traditional trades and crafts. Trades (eg. plumbing, carpentry, bricklaying, electrical installation) are vital parts of making the industry such a thriving place to work. Increasingly organisations are looking for project managers, site managers, planners, surveyors, designers, procurement specialists and many other roles as the industry expands and evolves. Our courses provide insight and exposure to the careers available with major local employers like Taylor Wimpey are helping to shape the curriculum and provide work experience and Apprenticeship opportunities.

Following successful completion of your Building Studies course you will have a wide choice of progression routes including direct employment, apprenticeships, work with training or continuing into further or higher education.

A critical part of your skills development is the application of theory in practice. Industry lead lectures and projects, guest speakers, working with and for the community and a variety of site visits build students’ confidence and professional standards.

Ofsted say – Pupils also benefit from the array of site visits that are a key part of building studies courses. Many of these visits include a talk from either the site manager or the architect who explain and discuss the techniques they have used, as well as wider relevant issues: regeneration, restoration and renew-ability.
